Becoming a healthier, happier you means making a commitment to yourself—there’s no better time than the present! Building a morning routine can help you make the most out of each day. Your morning should serve as the foundation to a productive day, so taking the time to create a detailed morning routine can pay off in a big way. Consider incorporating these great habits and reap the benefits.

  1. Make Time for Breakfast

Eating a healthy diet is an instrumental part of becoming the healthiest version of yourself, so dedicate time each morning to making and enjoying a big, hearty breakfast filled with nutritional value. Whip up a delicious omelet filled with veggies or make a bowl of warm, tummy-filling oatmeal topped with strawberries and blueberries for a quick but delicious breakfast.

2.  Brew Your Own Coffee

Skip that daily Starbucks run and make your own delicious coffee in the comfort of your own home. This is one morning routine that will save you money and reward you in the form of caffeinated goodness.

3. Consider a Daily Supplement

Taking a daily supplement can help you boost your overall health with very little effort. There are so many supplements to choose from for a variety of health issues; pick up a digestive health supplement from Zacol, or grab a hair and nails supplement from The Ouai.

4. Take a Walk

Jumpstart your metabolism by taking a quick, brisk walk in the morning. Even just 15 minutes spent circling the neighborhood can help you wake up and prepare for the day ahead.

5. Schedule Out Your Day

If you’ve got a busy day ahead of you, take a bit of time to organize your schedule. This simple task will take you no more than five minutes, and hopefully help relieve stress as you tackle whatever life has in store for you during the day.

6. Write Down Three Goals for Your Day

Every day represents a new opportunity, so make sure you’re making the most of it with specified goals. They don’t need to be anything earth-shattering—here’s an example three goals that can be accomplished by almost everyone:

    • Make someone smile
    • Do something kind for a coworker
    • Call a friend you’ve lost touch with

7. Overhaul Your Morning Skin Care Regimen

If your normal beauty routine means slopping on makeup and heading out the door, it’s time for a refresh. Give yourself at least 10 minutes in the morning to practice skin care. Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser every day, then apply a moisturizer designed for your skin type. Once your canvas is ready for makeup application, apply a primer; this handy little cosmetic marvel will ensure your makeup goes on smooth and stays on all day long.

8. Make Lunch

Skip the fast food restaurants by packing lunches in the morning. You’ll save money and keep your waistline trim; what better excuse to practice your culinary skills? Ensure you’ve got on-the-go storage containers ready and waiting.

9. Meditate for 5 Minutes

Meditation can help you center yourself, and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to face the day ahead. Studies have found that regular meditation can reduce stress, cultivate creativity, improve focus, and enhance memory.

10. Make Your Bed

We’ve heard it since we were children, but if you still haven’t gotten onboard with the daily practice of making your bed, it’s time. Making your bed constitutes as finishing a task; starting off your day with that feeling of accomplishment can only mean good things!

11. Read Something Inspirational

Start your day on an inspiring note, and read something that will have you hopeful and optimistic. Read something inspirational every day on Beliefnet.com.

12. Listen to Pump-Up Music

Don’t underestimate the power of a good tune. Pick a soul-lifting, heart-pumping jam to get your day started off right. Make a morning playlist on Spotify that you can listen to while getting ready in the morning and watch your mood skyrocket on the way to work.

  • Great article, Dr. Bola. I’m happy to say that I pretty much follow such a routine, especially since being retired. I really have enjoyed the articles you doctors give us. I have a request. I’ve heard so much about tumeric lately, and I would like your thoughts about taking it as a supplement. Is there a concern about it interfering with prescription drugs such as for blood pressure? Thanks so much, and keep up the good work.

    • Tumeric has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and can give some relief to joint pain from arthritis.

Be aware that Tumeric is a blood thinner so precautions should be taken if one is also on aspirin, naproxen or ibuprofen.
